A Color Palette That’s Calling My Name 🎨✨

The songbirds are making their grand entrance, their chirping filling the air like tiny musical notes. And even though it’s still, oh, about 20 degrees outside (because Wisconsin likes to keep us on our toes), you can feel it—the warmth, that little whisper of spring brushing against your skin. The sun is shining brighter, the sky is shifting from winter gray to a softer, lighter blue.

Speaking of lighter blues… Have you ever had a color palette idea hit you out of nowhere? Like, you’re just going about your day, and suddenly—bam—your brain says, "This. This is the color combo you need right now." That’s me today. I have an idea, and I’m itching to try it—I just haven’t decided what size canvas to commit to yet.

If you’re new here, welcome to my online studio! The Brushtip is where I spill my creative musings, share color tips, and let you in on the magic of my painting process. So, let’s dive into this new palette idea!

Lately, I’ve been letting the seasons nudge my color choices, and honestly? It’s been working so well. (Yes, a little bragging here, but hey—artists should be proud of their masterpieces, right?) As Wisconsin slowly shakes off winter’s deep blues, browns, and grays, I’m feeling pulled toward a lighter, brighter palette—something with warmth, light, and energy.

This morning, while sipping my coffee and scribbling down my to-do list (because if I don’t write it down, it vanishes from my brain forever), a color idea popped into my head: a soft, airy blue paired with a fresh spring-like green—maybe sage. Sounds lovely, right?

Then, on my way to breakfast with my grandparents, I caught a glimpse of the icy water—this stunning shade of teal with frozen white mixed in. Wow. That was it. The missing piece. The cool white of the ice would balance the light blue and sage beautifully. But then I had a moment—there’s no yellow, no orange… no gold?! No copper?! My paintings need light, they need sparkle!

Which led me to silver.

Now, I’ll admit, silver and I are still getting to know each other. I usually lean toward the warmth of gold and copper, but I’ve used silver before in a couple of cooler-toned pieces, and when I did? Perfection. So, maybe—just maybe—this palette is asking for silver’s subtle, luminous touch.

There’s really only one way to find out if this color combo is a keeper—I need to get into the studio and test it out! Good thing experimenting with color is one of my favorite things to do. 😉
